Job Search FAQs

Where do I apply?

Apply online here. You can browse job openings and submit your application directly. First-time users will be asked to create an account with a username and password before submitting an application.

What happens once I apply for a job?

We encourage all applicants to read the job requirements on the job posting carefully. Applicants who do not meet the minimum job requirements cannot be moved forward in the process. This ensures fairness and aligns with our philosophy of being an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants who are considered a good fit will be contacted.

Over 60,000 applications are received annually for approximately 1,000 positions. While securing a position at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH) or Georgetown Physician Practices (GPG) is a competitive process, here are some tips:

  1. Complete your application thoroughly! Please review to ensure your application is complete, accurate and free of spelling and grammatical errors before you electronically sign and submit.
  2. Copy and paste AND/OR upload your resume.
  3. Submit a cover letter that highlights your education, experience and skills relevant to the job posting. Tell us why you are a great candidate for the position!
  4. List any special skills, abilities, licenses and certifications you possess. Please also list any electronic systems you have used.

Why was I sent a link to take an assessment?

Some positions require the completion of an assessment. The instructions for the assessment are sent to the email address listed on your application. We recommend that you take the assessment in a quiet place with reliable high speed internet and limited distractions. You must complete the assessment in one sitting and should allow yourself one hour to complete it. The assessment is reviewed and scored by an external vendor. To ensure confidentiality and validity, we do not provide information about or results of the assessment. The assessment is part of a multi-component selection process.

Can I check on the status of my application?

You can check the status of your application online by logging into your account and clicking the tab "Application History."

Help! I’ve forgotten my username and password.

Click here and select “forgot username or password.” You will be prompted to type in your first and last name, the last 4 digits of your social security number and the answer to the security question you set up when you created your account.

Can I email, fax or mail my resume?

In an effort to sustain our commitment to the environment, all applicants must apply online. Electronic submission also ensures efficient and accurate applicant tracking. If you need assistance, we recommend that you visit a school career placement center, your local public library, or a local public employment office.

Is it better to upload my resume or copy and paste it in plain text?

Applicants are encouraged to do both.

Do I need to submit a cover letter?

We strongly encourage applicants to include a cover letter with every application.

What should I do if I'm having trouble applying online?

Check your browser. Our applicant tracking system is most compatible with Internet Explorer. Please ensure that your pop-up blockers are turned off, as the application will pop up into a new window. If you are still having issues, please call (800) 869-5200 to speak with a technical representative.

My information has changed since I’ve applied. Can I update my application?

A submitted employment application is a legal document and cannot be edited. You can, however, edit your contact information by logging into your account and clicking the tab "My Account."
