Dr. Zawadsky is a member of the MedStar Orthopaedic Institute and performs surgery at our MedStar Georgetown University Hospital location. He is an expert in hip and knee replacement surgery and committed to providing the latest techniques to improve your mobility and return you to an active lifestyle. Board certified and fellowship trained in hip and knee replacement surgery, he trained at Columbia University and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, the top orthopaedic hospital in the country. Dr. Zawadsky uses a tissue sparing hip replacement technique through a direct anterior approach, that does not require muscle detachment from the bone. In a recent study comparing this technique to the mini-posterior approach, patients went home from the hospital a day earlier, used less narcotic medication, and had lower pain scores. 80% used only a cane two weeks post-surgery and the transfusion rate was below 2%. As the founding Medical Director of the Bloodless Surgery Program at MedStar Georgetown, Dr. Zawadsky has worked aggressively on new techniques to reduce or eliminate blood transfusion needs. In addition, Dr. Zawadsky serves as the Assistant Team Physician for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League.
