Advanced techniques and equipment
MedStar Georgetown offers a spectrum of interventional radiation treatments, ranging from chemoembolization for treatment of primary liver cancer to irreversible electroporation (IRE) for primary pancreatic cancer. We provide a greater number of treatment options than many interventional radiation departments, even those housed at other large research hospitals.
The Department of Interventional Radiology is equipped with the latest technology. Technological innovations include irreversible electroporation (IRE) which can allow for a non-surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer and Yttrium-90 radioembolization where radiation particles are delivered selectively to liver cancers.
