About MGUH Transplant Institute

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is part of the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, providing hope and life-restoring care to patients with end-stage organ failure. As one of the highest volume transplant programs in the United States, we have performed more than 5,100 liver, kidney, small bowel, colon, stomach and multi organ transplants.  We also perform hepatobiliary surgery and offer auto islet cell transplantation for those patients suffering from the pain of chronic pancreatitis.

Our one-year adult and pediatric graft survival rates are higher than any other transplant center in the mid-Atlantic region.  The Transplant Institute is committed to guiding and supporting patients and their loved ones through the transplant process.  Our multidisciplinary team of nationally known surgeons and medical specialists as well as transplant coordinators, social workers and dieticians are committed to guiding and supporting patients and their loved ones through the transplant process and offering patients their best chance for recovery and an improved quality of life.

This joint program is the combination of transplant teams at both MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. In addition, the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute offers outpatient kidney evaluations at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, as well as Fairfax, Virginia.
