At MedStar Georgetown, you and your baby will receive the highest level of seamless care beginning before pregnancy and spanning through follow-up care months and years after delivery. Our hospital is the only Level IV NICU with a birthing center in the District, and our NICU care team works closely with obstetricians, maternal fetal medicine specialists, and pediatric medical and surgical specialists at MedStar Georgetown, allowing for truly comprehensive care.

We practice family-centered care which makes you and your family key members of your baby’s care team. To help you find comfort during your baby’s stay in the NICU, we provide comprehensive family support services that are unique to our hospital including a family support specialist, psychologist, lactation consultants, spiritual support, and a newly renovated family support center that includes rooming-in facilities among other comfortable areas for your family to feel at ease.

Our academic Level IV NICU is a regional and national leader in neonatal education and research, training neonatologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Our team is passionate about caring for the most vulnerable infants and pioneers the most advanced therapies available such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and whole body cooling.

Our advanced Neonatal-Perinatal Transport Service is capable of transporting both critically ill infants and high-risk pregnant women by ambulance or helicopter 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We are dedicated to helping babies thrive, even after leaving the NICU. We offer a comprehensive, high-risk follow-up clinic run by neonatologists, an aerodigestive clinic for feeding and breathing problems, apnea clinic for respiratory issues, neurodevelopmental evaluation clinics, and many pediatric medical and surgical subspecialty clinics.
