The Division of Community Pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is dedicated to ensuring that families in Washington, D.C. have the care and support they need to live healthy and happy lives. In the spirit of cura personalis, or care of the whole person, we provide a range of community outreach and education services that go above and beyond traditional medical care.
In addition to the direct medical services we offer at the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and our school-based health centers, our team works closely with our community partners to connect with families in many other ways. From engaging with caregivers at community events about healthy living and the importance of preventive care, to promoting family wellness at a Family Fitness Night, to distributing donated winter coats and toys each holiday season, our staff enjoys connecting with D.C. families in a variety of way.
- Meeting our community: From farmer’s markets to church festivals, you’ll find our friendly staff engaging with families about the importance of pediatric primary care and healthy living at many community gatherings throughout the year. These events present a chance for our staff and families to connect in a different setting. For new families, these informal events are a great opportunity to meet with us, learn about common health concerns, ask questions about what we do, and how to make your child’s first appointment.
- Teaching healthy new habits: Our team brings our expertise and enthusiasm to health fairs and community events throughout the area. We engage families with exercise activities, nutrition education games, cooking demonstrations, and even flu vaccinations.
- Helping families fill in the gaps: The Division of Community Pediatrics understands that caring for a family can be expensive. Purchases like school supplies, winter weather gear, and holiday gifts can be difficult to manage on top of other expenses. We’re committed to collecting donations and distributing necessities like backpacks, winter coats, clothes, toys, and books. In collaboration with partners such as the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Nurse Magnet® Champions, we hold several drives each year.
