MedStar Georgetown University Medical Center is one of 33 major medical centers that participated in the 2011 National Lung Screening Trial. Armed with the results of this trial, we launched a large and comprehensive lung cancer CT screening program in the region — one of the first of its kind in the country.
Our doctors are involved with the latest research and offer clinical trials to appropriate patients across our network. One of our studies substitutes CyberKnife radiation for the surgical treatment of the main type of lung cancer.
Before quitting 10 years ago, Mary and Michael Baroody were both heavy smokers for 35+ years. Thanks to the latest screening process, doctors were able to diagnose lung cancer at very early stages and provide treatment before it advanced to a life-threatening condition.
