Who are MedStar Georgetown Volunteers?
Men and women of all ages and ethnic origins from across the United States and abroad, actively seek the opportunity to join the MedStar Georgetown volunteer team each year! This team consists of high school and college students, adults and other community members. This diverse pool of energized volunteers is an integral part of our organization. These volunteers contribute to our organizational success and reputation as a beacon in the world of healthcare.
There are over 150 active volunteers, many of whom are local and have ties to surrounding communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia areas. While the Volunteer Services Department regularly recruits new volunteers, MedStar Georgetown maintains a strong core of committed long-standing volunteers, some of which have served the hospital for over thirty years!
What Motivates MedStar Georgetown Volunteers?
MedStar Georgetown volunteers are motivated by personal, spiritual and professional reasons. Some individuals have either been patients or have family members that were patients at MedStar Georgetown and they are personally motivated by their desire to give back to this organization in appreciation for the positive impact MedStar Georgetown has had on their lives and those of their loved ones. Other volunteers are motivated by their thirst for knowledge and desire to learn from leaders in the health care profession. Ultimately, all of our volunteers are passionate about giving of themselves and assisting the MedStar Georgetown community through service.
Who Are We Looking For?
MedStar Georgetown is looking for mature individuals, who are responsible, dependable, passionate and committed! These are all qualities that make great leaders and volunteers, and will contribute to your success in our program.
We have a very diverse population of patients and associates with various backgrounds in ethnicity, culture, language, age and religion. All MedStar Georgetown volunteers should be comfortable interacting and collaborating with people of different backgrounds and should view this experience as an opportunity for enrichment! We pride ourselves in delivering optimal service to all patients and we are looking for volunteers who share our enthusiasm for the value a diverse environment provides.
While MGUH is a health care institution with a primary focus on patient care, we invite students and professionals from all backgrounds to explore our volunteer program. There are many departments, such as Human Resources and Volunteer Services that utilize volunteers as well. These departments can offer an array of real life work skills and experience that can be applied to various career paths.
If you feel this describes you, learn more about our volunteer program and how you can apply in the Getting Started section of our website.
